Projects - Past and Present

Mapau has given from the heart in many, many instances. As a charitable donor, the club has touched the lives of many people in Trinidad and Tobago. Here are a few of the projects that Mapau, its staff and management have responded to.

MaPau Charity makes first official visit to Flood Affected Williamsville and Gasparillo

On Friday 13 August, MaPau Charity made its first official visit to flood affected areas in Williamsville and Gasparillo to distribute furniture, appliances and hampers to over 20 families in need.

Just before the weekend, MaPau SC Pro League football team joined various members of the MaPau and Sweet Lime Company to pack, load and distribute supplies to families in Williamsville and Gasparillo, Starting on Kent Street in Williamsville, the MaPau Charity team dedicated the entire day to ensuring that families who called the Flood Response hotline with their requests received their needs which included stoves, beds (complete with mattresses), food and personal hygiene items.

The tell tale signs of the waters remained stained on the walls of the flood affected homes, demonstrating that these families experienced waters as high as four feet rushing through their belongings. Although they all live near a river which snakes it way through the area, many families expressed shock and said that they had never experienced flood levels to such proportions before.

MaPau Charity had originally planned to meet the needs of those on our list, but met many other families in need of assistance along the way including Sandra Girwar’s family who received a bed and stove to replace those which had been destroyed.

In total, MaPau earmarked $50,000 for the one day visit and are planning more as the month progresses, with the next visit being on Tuesday 17 August.
MaPau Charities will be receiving all requests through our Flood Response Hotline at 623 4048. The hotline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the month of August.

Mapau's $4000 Assistance to Indra!

Indra Mathura can now look forward to a much needed eye surgical procedure, all thanks to Mapau's generous $4000 donation which will cover all costs incurred.

The procedure which will attempt to remove a growth over the inner part of Indra's eye, promises to give her cleared vision, once again.

The management of Mapau is proud to offer the financial assistance required by Ms. Mathura and looks forward to hearing of her successful recovery.

Mapau continues to be that empowering light when all other avenues seem uncertain.

The Masaisai's Will Achieve, Thanks To Mapau!

A solid education is the key variable in the achievement of a successful, well balanced future, and this, Farai and Tafara Masaisai, aged 21 and 23 respectively, have acknowledged. The brothers, who hail from Belmont, Trinidad have proven to be distinctively ambitious in their efforts to attain the best possible academic structure that can be afforded.

At the age of 19, Farai took the foundation awarded at Trinity College and ventured out into the world unknown. Desirous of a law degree, the teenager boarded an aircraft bound to the Heathrow International Airport in London, with a clear perspective of the challenges that lay ahead. In London, Farai began his journey, setting up sidewalk and corner styled appeal in what would become a steel pan playing entrepreneurship. Taking his Trinbagonian musical culture across the horizon, he made a decent living and earned the money needed to start his procession through college.

It has been two years since Farai's humble beginning, and since that time, his 23- year- old brother, Tafara has joined him at the Holborn College of the University of Huddersfield. Both brothers are enrolled in the same program and they both look forward to graduating with the LLB achievement in September of 2007. In light of the challenges that still lie ahead, the matriarch of the Masaisai family here in Trinidad, Mrs. June Masaisai has continued her rally for financial assistance from corporate Trinidad and members of the general public. The Mapau Members Club, continuously proving themselves a beacon of light, has donated $30,000TT toward the £10,500 tuition cost, that it will take for the boys' course completion.

Both youths do intend to continue their studies by delving into a two year comprehensive law degree which will cost an estimated £10,000 each, per year. The Masaisai family is a shining example of youthful determination and spirit in the face of adversity. Their advice to the youths of Trinidad and Tobago, is simple, "with determination, it can be done, all dreams can be achieved!"

Mapau believes in the youth of T&T and so should you!

Mapau Relieves the Pressure of The School Supply Hunt!

As September nears, the buildup to school's commencement takes shape in many ways. Parents and children alike are busy purchasing new and in most instances, costly items for the new school term that lies ahead.

For Oden Nero, his son Matthew's enrollment into Trinity College is a welcomed blessing. It means the beginning of a secondary education that many yearn for, but aren't successful in attaining. Oden's only challenge was obtaining the funding that would ensure that his son's needs are met. Books and supplies for the new school term proved to be costly and so, Oden turned to The Mapau Member's Club.

Understanding the worth of a good secondary education, Mapau immediately answered to the call of the Nero family. Donating text books and other supplies to Oden, Mapau is honored to assist Matthew in his endeavor toward a successful future.

Mapau Invites Santa To Sealots!

A constant source of assistance and a haven of sorts to many, The Mapau member's Club once again came to the aid of the Sea Lots community.

In its tenth year of hosting the annual children's Christmas party, Mapau saw it fit to invite Santa and his elves, along with a host of local entertainers to be a part of the memorable event. Also in attendance was the Honorable Minister and MP for the Laventille area, Fitzgerald Hinds.

The children of the impoverished community were treated to magic, musical entertainment, tasty treats and of course, gifts from Santa and his Mapau elves. The smiles and shrieks of excitement were abundantly heard as each child present, got a chance to bask in the delight of the wonders of Christmas.

For an event which had a very humble beginning at the home of Mapau employee and Sea Lots resident, Isaac, the 10th year's celebration proved to be truly worth while, as it not only brought cheers of joy to the hearts of the community's children, but also a sense of pride and fulfillment to the management and staff of the Mapau Members Club.
